The hotel where the Writer’s Bar is boasts of a history going all the way back to the 1890s, making it probably the oldest continuously running hotel in the country. The bar itself is known to have been existence in one form or another from the 1920s.

The name comes from the fact that many famous writers have graced its elegant interiors in the more than a century of its existence. Wooden plaques at the entrance lists names of many of the distinguished writers who have had a drink here. These include at least two Nobel Prize winners, Rudyard Kipling, and Pearl S Buck.
